LANCE RUSSELL: Weeellll, good mornin’ everybody and welcome here to Championship Wrestling. I’m Lance Russell and joining me as always is my good friend Dave Brown. Dave, it’s great to see you!
DAVE BROWN: Lance, it’s always a pleasure! And what a show do we have this morning!
LANCE RUSSELL: Boy, you aren’t kidding, Dave! I think the biggest news coming out of the week is that the current Southern Tag Team Champions Dutch Mantell and “Wildfire” Tommy Rich appear to be no more, I’m sad to say!
DAVE BROWN: That’s right. It’s a very unfortunate situation, and hopefully we can sort it all out because Dutch Mantell is here today. We’re going to have full details on that situation a little later on.
LANCE RUSSELL: We also have quite a big announcement. This Monday night down at the Mid-South Coliseum – it will be a match that EVERYBODY has been waiting for. “Macho Man” Randy Savage will finally get his shot at the Southern Heavyweight Champion King Kong Bundy!
DAVE BROWN: I can’t wait to see it. I know you feel the same way, Lance. Later today, the Southern Heavyweight Champion King Kong Bundy will be here along with Jimmy Hart to tell us how he is feeling ahead of the match.
LANCE RUSSELL: And boy oh boy, what a featured match we have today! It will be the CWA Heavyweight Champion ‘Hotstuff’ Eddie Gilbert defending against one of the rising stars in the CWA – young Tracy Smothers! Right now, it’s bell time so heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere we go Davey!”
MATCH: SOUTHERN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION KING KONG BUNDY vs. KEITH ERIC
Bundy pinned Eric at 2:01 with the big splash…[/b] The Southern Heavyweight Champion is led to the ring by his manager Jimmy Hart, who stops by the announce table to say that Randy Savage needs to pay close attention to this next match. Bundy of course destroys young Keith Eric and renders him unconscious with the Avalanche splash. The champion then demands Paul Morton make a five count to end the match, rather than the traditional three count.[/i]
- Southern Heavyweight Champion King Kong Bundy and Jimmy Hart make their way
over to the desk. -
LANCE RUSSELL: A very impressive display from one King Kong Bundy, but I have a feeling the Macho Man will be putting up a bigger fight!
JIMMY HART: Lance Russell, why don’t you do everyone a favor and keep your big banana nose out of the predictions business, baby!
LANCE RUSSELL: Come on, Jimmy!
JIMMY HART: Don’t stick your beek in, man! Because you see this man standing next to me is the biggest, the baddest athlete in rasslin today! He’s beaten everybody baby! Austin Idol! That old coot Jimmy Valiant! He even beat The King himself! Do you think he’s scared of the Macho Man!
LANCE RUSSELL: I don’t know if he is, but he probably should be!
KING KONG BUNDY: Lance, you don’t have a clue what you’re talkin’ about! Look at me! I’m double the size of the so-called Macho Man! So what if he likes to fly around the ring. I’ll swat him like a fly if he tries that with me! Monday night, Savage is gonna get squashed just like that punk up in the ring got squashed a few minutes ago.
-Jimmy Hart and King Kong Bundy walk off. -
LANCE RUSSELL: I’ll tell you one thing – I may not agree with everything he does, but this King Kong Bundy is a very scary individual. This match between him and the Macho Man is one you will not want to miss. More Championship Wrestling after this break!

LANCE RUSSELL: I’m not sure the Infernos are quite as happy, but let’s find out.
MATCH: THE ROCK N’ ROLL EXPRESS vs. THE INFERNOS:

LANCE RUSSELL: You got that right!
JERRY LAWLER: First off, I’d just like to welcome back the Rock n’ Roll Express. They’re one of the greatest teams to come out of Memphis – and I should know! I was in a few of the other greatest teams!
LANCE RUSSELL: I know you’re bragging a little Jerry, but I can’t disagree with you!
JERRY LAWLER: Me? Brag? Come on, Lance!
-The King smiles as Lance Russell chuckles a little. -
JERRY LAWLER: Okay, okay, I’ll get serious! You know, I wanted to come out here today to talk about the big match that has been signed for this Monday. The Macho Man is finally going to get his shot at King Kong Bundy! Macho Man and I have both had our troubles with Bundy, so I’d like to wish Randy Savage all the luck in the world in becoming the new Southern Champion.
LANCE RUSSELL: I’m sure he appreciates that!
JERRY LAWLER: All I’ve asked the Macho Man is to save me just a little bit so I can get my own payback on Bundy!
- The interview is interrupted at this point when Jimmy Hart makes his way out into the studio with the so-called “Playboy” Frazier. -
LANCE RUSSELL: All right Jimmy, we don’t need any trouble out here!
JIMMY HART: We ain’t here lookin’ for no trouble, baby! I just can’t believe what I’m hearing, man! I mean – did Jerry the Burger King Lawler just say that he wants another piece of King Kong Bundy? Do you have a death wish or something, King?
JERRY LAWLER: No, I don’t have a death wish. I just don’t run from pieces of trash like Bundy, or this big goof you have with you or certainly not from you Hart!
PLAYBOY FRAZIER: Hey Lawler, you treat Jimmy Hart with respect now!
JERRY LAWLER: Why don’t you go back to cleaning out another buffet and stop worrying about my business. Playboy? What a joke! You’re nothing but BIG, FAT PLOWBOY FRAZIER from Philadelphia, Mississippi!
PLAYBOY FRAZIER: Hey Lawler, I can’t help it if the wimmen love me! I done told ‘em to stop throwing their underwear at me! It ain’t my fault!
JERRY LAWLER: Okay, you know what… “Playboy”? I’ve got something to take your mind off your mental anguish. How about you meet me in that ring on Monday night and instead of underwear, I’ll throw my right hand at you enough time to knock your oversized head in?
JIMMY HART: Now hold on a minute Lawler…
PLAYBOY FRAZIER: Nah, nah, Jimmy, that’s fine! Lawler, yer on! Monday night, I’ll give ya a few missing teeth to go with that bad haircut!
JERRY LAWLER: You’d certainly know something about missing teeth there… “Playboy”.
- Jimmy Hart leads an irate Playboy Frazier to the ring, where they are joined by “Ravishing” Rick Rude for our next match. -
MATCH: PLAYBOY FRAZIER & RICK RUDE w/ Jimmy Hart vs. JOHN KING & KEN RAPER:
Frazier scored the pin with a sit-down splash on King at 7:13… Rick Rude taunted Jerry Lawler a bit during the match, as Lawler did commentary with Lance Russell. Rude managed to plant John King with the neckbreaker and then tagged in Playboy Frazier to score the pin with his splash.[/i]
- Jimmy Hart, Rick Rude and Playboy Frazier taunted Jerry Lawler a little more after the match as they left. -
JERRY LAWLER: Jimmy Hart, you and your goon squad can run your mouths all you want. This Monday night, I’m gonna knock some sense into big, fat Plowboy Frazier!
LANCE RUSSELL: King, thanks for sticking around out here with us for match. When we come back, hopefully we’ll be able to make sense of this situation involving Tommy Rich and Dutch Mantell.
------------
------------
COMMERCIAL BREAK:
------------
------------
- We go back to Dave Brown at the desk. -
DAVE BROWN: Over the last week, we’ve had some strange happenings involving the Southern Tag Team Titles. As you recall, last week Dutch Mantell had to defend the belts himself against the Masked Nightmares when Wildfire Tommy Rich missed his flight out of Atlanta.
VTR: Footage is shown of Dutch Mantell getting double-teamed by the Nightmares, until referee Jerry Calhoun called for the bell. -
DAVE BROWN: Now, Dutch won that match on account of disqualification and held onto the belts. These two teams were scheduled to meet again in Louisville earlier in the week, but unfortunately Tommy Rich’s car broke down on the way to Louisville from Hendersonville. However, Rich did manage to make it to the ring just in time to save the day. What happened after the match was truly unpleasant. Let’s take a look.
- Dutch Mantell joins Dave Brown at ringside after the clip fades out. -
DAVE BROWN: Dutch, I know this is a sensitive situation, but I think this can all still be worked out between yourself and Tommy.
DUTCH MANTELL: There’s nothing to work out, Dave. The team of Tommy Rich and Dutch Mantell is over. And if you want to blame someone, blame Tommy Rich because he clearly does not care about this team or the CWA as a whole.
DAVE BROWN: Now hold on Dutch. I understand that you’re upset, but I think you might be rushing to judgment.
DUTCH MANTELL: I don’t think I am, Dave. The man left me to defend the belts on my own twice in three days. All because he’s a big national star. Tommy was too busy in Atlanta, he was too busy in St. Louis! Well, Dutch Mantell might not be on the cover of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, but I show up for my matches!
DAVE BROWN: There has to be to some way…
DUTCH MANTELL: You know, I have to say I’m a little surprised at you Dave Brown? Did you not just see me having to fight two men and Jimmy Hart on my own not once… but twice?
DAVE BROWN: I definitely did Dutch…
DUTCH MANTELL: Then why are you making excuses Tommy Rich?
DAVE BROWN: I don’t think I am making excuses for Tommy. I’m just trying to see if a team that these fans really have taken to can be salvaged.
DUTCH MANTELL: It’s not happening. No chance! Not a snowball’s chance… if you know what I mean. And, like I said, if that angers you – blame Tommy Rich!
DAVE BROWN: What does that mean for the Southern Tag Team Titles?
DUTCH MANTELL: It means this team is no more and Eddie Marlin can do what he wants with the belts! Now Tommy, I know you’re watching. We’re gonna get to share the ring again, just one more time. This Monday, it’s me against you. That is, if you have the guts to actually show up this time!
- Dutch Mantell walks off angrily as Dave Brown shrugs. -
DAVE BROWN: It’s a real shame fans. Okay, we’ll be right back with our featured bout as Eddie Gilbert defends that CWA Heavyweight Title against the up-and-comer Tracy Smothers! Right after this special look at Wildfire Tommy Rich!

TV MAIN EVENT: CWA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION “HOTSTUFF” EDDIE GILBERT w/ Jimmy Hart vs. TRACY SMOTHERS:
Gilbert scored the pin on Smothers at 12:31 with a DDT… Gilbert comes into the match as cocky as usual, but Smothers shocks him with a series of near falls in the opening moments. Smothers connects with a super kick and appears to have the pin, but Jimmy Hart distracts the referee. This allows Gilbert to get up, land a knee to the back and plant Smothers with a Hot Shot to score the win.[/i]
- Jimmy Hart and “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert make their way over to the desk for our final moments. -
EDDIE GILBERT: Did you see that Lance Russell? Some green as grass punk is never gonna make his name off of Hotstuff Eddie Gilbert!
LANCE RUSSELL: Well he almost did it, Eddie! And we probably would have had a new champion if it wasn’t for Hart interfering!
JIMMY HART: I oughta sue you Lance Russell! That is libel, slander and defamation, baby! Eddie Gilbert won that match fair and square!
EDDIE GILBERT: It’s okay Jimmy. Lance and Dave are obviously biased. But I have something I want to talk about. You know, I saw the Rock n’ Roll Express out here earlier. I saw that the Bill “Superstar” Dundee is coming back this Monday night. Is that right, Lance?
LANCE RUSSELL: It sure is – and he might just want a shot at that belt if you can get past Phil Hickerson!
EDDIE GILBERT: I’ll talk about Hickerson in a minute. But I want to say to the Bill Dundees and the Rock n’ Roll Expresses who are all suddenly coming back to the CWA. The reason there’s a buzz around this territory is because of ME! I’ve held this belt longer than all of ya’all thought I would and I’ve beaten the very best. The First Family are the stars here and we might just run Dundee and the Rock n’ Roll Express right back out of town!
JIMMY HART: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! That’s right, you tell ‘em Hotstuff!
EDDIE GILBERT: Now as for Phil Hickerson. You know, he’s a tough man. He’s won a lot of gold in the CWA. But I know the secret of beating him Lance. I’ve got it figured out!
LANCE RUSSELL: … And what’s that Eddie?
EDDIE GILBERT: I’m gonna run around the ring and let him chase me. After two or three leaps he’ll have a heart attack and I can pin him!
LANCE RUSSELL: Awww, come on now Eddie! That’s about enough of that garbage!
JIMMY HART: HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!! I love it, baby, I love it!!!!
- “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert and Jimmy Hart laugh as they walk off. -
LANCE RUSSELL: All right folks, we’ll be right back to wrap up.
